Objective:
Learn to identify the essential characteristics (anatomy) of letterforms. Learn to see unique characteristics of letterforms across classifications. Explore and experiment with the potential of combining letterforms. Consider the balance of positive and negative space in a composition. Use thumbnail sketches and roughs to help generate and focus ideas. Use the process of drawing as a method to see and learn about form. Develop preliminary designs and conceptualizations into a resolved project.
Rationale:
In this project I went through a lot of revisions as I struggled to capture the right feel of the design so that both money and bread could be integrated. Although, with further examination, I was able to create a sense of motion within the acronym by:
- Curving the stems and serifs
- Matching the color combination to that of a dollar bill
- Correcting the wordmark font to resemble a bread brand aesthetic.
Objective:
This project will demand that you think about the nuances of place making as well as the subtleties/intricacies of typographic form.
Rationale:
In the beginning of this project, I was struggling to relate to this location because I had no prior knowledge of it. But after a lot of secondary research, I gained more knowledge and elements to include in the Geographical Wordmark. The colors were a bit of a challenge deciding on what to include but I ultimately stuck to colors of the Rockford symbol and the Rockford Peaches baseball team. In the end, I was able to capture the organic, yet aesthetically pleasing, features in the color and design elements that signify Rockford, Illinois.
